In honor of today’s SPD blogger network blog carnival, here’s a picture of my little guy at my mother’s wedding…
The noise canceling headphones allowed my little guy to sit at the head table near the music and not get upset. The pressure of the headphones on his cheeks helped him feel better as well. (We also took these to Toy Story 3 thank goodness!!)
The SPD blogger network is a group of wonderful mothers and fathers writing about their kids with sensory processing disorder. For more information on SPD and the blogger network, click on the link on the right hand side of my home page that says “SPD Blogger Network”.

How do you get him to keep the headphones on. My son won’t even wear a hat so I’m hesitant to invest in headphones… any good tips?

It took a long time – at first he was really resistant. But then he figured out that it was so much better with them on than without. They are actually his dad’s lawn mowing headphones, so they are a bit big, and maybe that helps?

Love the idea, Matthew loves wearing a hat it makes his head feel good he told the teacher. He also wears a vest during circle time to help keep him grounded. We have noise issues rarely thank goodness.:)

Love it. The last wedding we were at we made a little tent under the table and put big headphones on Crash with calming music. The noise canceling headphones were a great idea.

It’s of course always impossible to say, but your little guy sounds a lot like mine (who’s 7). He’s doing really well now, but we handled things a bit differently. Anyway, sounds like you’ve found a path you’re comfortable with, so I hope everything works out for you.

Days like this are truly something to imbrace! I know all too well how rare they can be. I often tense myself up for a situation I know is coming only to have the rug graciously pulled out from under me and the day goes beautifully. I’m glad this was such a wonderful day for your family! Cherish these days for the craptastic ones that threaten to drive you over the edge:) They are certainly the things that keep us coming back for more!

You are so right! On the tough days, I’ll come back and read this and other people’s posts about their amazing days!

Oh that is SO precious!
I have a photo of my middle boy wearing yellow ones almost exactly the same!
They are a life saver aren’t they!
I’m so happy that you all had a wonderful day! Here’s to many more easy family outings!

Katie has a pink pair…they are invaluable! Couldn’t have made it through Disney without them and she uses them all.the.time. : )
